Grande MAXII Museum Extension in Rome
This project is a proposal for an International Competition Call announced by MAXII Museum in February 2022. The whole venture, entitled Grande MAXII, refers to an extension to the existing MAXII Museum designed by the famous architect Zaha HADID in 1998. According to the program of the Competition, an organic and integrated set of actions for planning the physical spaces and cultural innovation strategies are described to be pursued by the MAXXI in the decades to come.
The objectives of the Master Plan are represented by two design axes, summarised below:
- Completion of the “sistema MAXXI” (MAXXI System) in the spaces granted on a thirty-year lease to the Fondazione, including the construction, in a currently unoccupied area, of new functions complementary to the activities offered by the MAXXI: a centre for experimentation related to the relationship between artificial intelligence and creativity in art, architecture and urban regeneration; a centre dedicated to the conservation and restoration of contemporary art; specialised educational activities offered by the MAXXI
- The “sistema MAXXI” is to be integrated with a new landscape architecture project for a linear system of urban greenspace designed to host the Museum’s outdoor activities and serve as an experimental model of landscaping, public space and a working garden.
